Hello my lovely readers,
I hope you're all keeping well and enjoying the tiny bit of sunshine that we have!
I thought I would blog about my FAVOURITE matte lip products (as you can probably tell from the title!). The latest craze has been everything matte, from matte foundation, matte eyeshadows to matte lips. I, as a makeup junkie, obviously fell in love with all things matte.
As per usual, I couldn't narrow down my favourite matte lip products to just 3/4 so I have just put all my go-to favourites.
So, here's a review of the brands, textures, pigmentation, consistencies, lasting powers and recommendations, enjoy! :)
(From left to right).
1. Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics Lip Tar - Memento:
This lip tar is absolutely AMAZING. It has the ultimate lasting power needed for those who hate topping up their lipstick/glosses. Initially, I had such a love/hate relationship with this tar. It has quite a watery consistency which meant when I was in a rush (basically if I overslept) then I couldn't reach for this as you have to shake it, apply it either on a palette or the back of your hand, mix it & then apply it with a brush. So, I just stuck this lip tar at the back of my cupboard. However, now that Spring is here I decided to rediscover my older products and make use of them. I have now grown to love this tar because the colour is to die for. It can be described as a barbie peachy pink - great for Spring!
2. MAC - Mehr:
Okay, this lipstick is definitely my NUMBER ONE MATTE LIPSTICK. Without this lipstick I would cry (okay, maybe not BUT its just amazing). Mehr is described as a "dirty blue pink" & it's a very mauvey pink, not really blue. I wear it almost everyday & it goes with every look whether its a day at work or a night out. You can really dress this lipstick up with a darker lipliner or simply put a little on - pat your lips and your good to go. As for holding power - I cannot fault MAC's matte lipsticks lasting power and I cannot emphasise enough how much I love this lipstick! (Below is a little snippet of me wearing it).
3. MAC - Velvet Teddy:
So, il be completely honest about this lipstick. Its almost always sold out and 90% of people who buy this colour fall in love with it. If you're wondering why its always sold out, two words - Kylie Jenner. Its known to be her signature colour and she always has the most AMAZING looks (just stalk her Instagram and you'll see). So, when I went into the MAC store and saw it in stock, I swatched it and bought it. When I came home and tried it out and wasn't as impressed as I thought I would be. It could be because I had very high expectations. HOWEVER, I have learnt to love it. I cannot wear this colour completely alone as I have a yellow undertone to my skin, so it makes me look quite washed out. When I wear a darker lipliner such as "Spice" by MAC, I tend to put that all over my lips followed by Velvet Teddy and only then does it become my favourite nude lipstick. Below is an image of Kylie Jenner wearing the shade and the look that everyone is lusting over.
So, this is a drugstore brand and for £1 you really can't go wrong. When I bought this colour, I wasn't too sure how lilac would look on my lips, but as it was only £1 I bought it and thank God I did - I love it. It's such an unusual colour with great pigmentation and the lasting power is reasonable for a drugstore brand. Top it up once or twice during the day and its as good as new.
5. NYX - Tea Rose:
NYX is by far one of my favourite brands. Not only is it reasonably priced, its great quality. I bought a large amount of NYX products from IMATS last year due to NYX only being available in one/two stores in the UK (& they have very limited stock). This is extremely pigmented and its a lovely mauvey pink shade that will look gorgeous on everyone. Its more of a pink than natural but its lovely for a night out and when you feel like making more of a statement with your matte lips go for this!
6. NYX - Milan:
Another NYX product (told you I love the brand). This is from their soft matte lip cream range which is ALWAYS sold out online. I am so glad I picked up a couple of shades from IMATS and completely regret not venturing out with different colours as now its so hard to get my hands on them. The product slides onto the lips really smoothly and dries matte within seconds. It doesn't have that sticky finish that most of the lipgloss/stains have. It has this minty scent which I actually really like. Its so bright and bold - again, great for a statement lip. All in all its definitely one for matte lip lovers.
7. Too Faced Melted - Peony:
Again, this is an amazing brand - slightly pricey but well worth it for the colour pay off. The applicator is amazing and it has this very soft tip. The product comes out from little holes in the fabric which means it doesn't cake on or become too thick. It's actually quite opaque. It can be described as a bright dusty rose and it looks great during the day or night. Overall - I would definitely recommend it and for those who are looking for bright matte shades - go check Too Faced's Melted range out!
8. Makeup Academy Luxe- Halcyon:
So, this is from the same range as lilac belle (above) but the luxe range is slightly more dearer in price. By that I mean a couple of pounds more expensive (still extremely reasonable). Its such a vampy nude shade which dries in seconds. Apparently its a good alternative for Limecrimes Velvetines in "Cashmere" (something I NEED to get my hands on). This is SO good for those who want something completely velvety and HIGHLY pigmented. For £3 you're getting an absolute bargain. Again they have a great range of daring colours (but I'm boring and like my neutrals and pinks) so check them out! :)
9. Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro - 503:
One word guys BEAUTIFUL. If you're looking for more a luxury brand which not only looks great on your but on your dresser too then go and get this. I cannot explain how excited I was when I discovered Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro's. Soon after my sister actually bought it for me & it was love at first application. It is such an amazing taupe/mauve dark pink and its SO silky on the lips. Just get it and try it for yourself! :)
10. Nars Velvet Matte Lip Pencil - Sex Machine:
This lip pencil was purchased at IMATS in a set of three, however this shade was the main reason I bought the set (and gave the other two to my sisters). As you can see from the swatch (above) its a very soft pink. When I first applied it I found it was quite drying but thats nothing a little bit of lip balm beforehand can't change. Once I applied some balm and then the velvet pencil I loved it. The shade is perfect for those who love their everyday pinks and those who like that neutral/pinky lip for a night out. It has the same application as the very popular chubby sticks/pencils which makes it very easy to line your lips with.
11. Elf Matte Lip Pencil - Tea Rose
Last but not least, we have my beloved brand - ELF (eyes lips face). This is a brand based in the US however, they do have a UK website which is amazing. What's even better is that ELF almost always have a sale on and are already so affordable. When I place ELF orders I end up ordering a box load of products! Anyways, back to the shade itself this is a light mauve with a strong purple tone. Its almost like lilac belle (above) with that vampy tone added to it. If you're not too sure about matte lip products - try one from ELF and I am sure you will love it. Although the lasting power isn't brilliant, its great for those who like that little bit of matte tint on the lips to finish off a very neutral look!
Thats all for now guys. I hope this bblog helped! :)
What are your favourite matte shades? Am I missing out on any?
Lots of love,
Nouveau Beauty xo
