My Top 3 Silicone Based Primers

Hello guys,

Its me again with another review for you all! (I am currently on a roll after receiving loads of really encouraging messages from my lovely readers! It actually means to much to receive so many compliments and positive feedback on my bblogs & it makes me want to do loads more for you all! :))

I'll introduce this bblog by starting off with a really brief background as to why I REALLY recommend using a primer if you're someone who wears BB cream/Foundation on a daily basis. Here's a few points about the advantages of using primers:

1. Seals pores - the huge benefit of wearing primer is that is seals any large pores, almost acting like a blanket over your skin.

2. Smoothes your skin - for flawless and smooth application, putting even a pea sized amount of primer on allows your foundation to slide on so effortlessly.

3. Non- Comedogenic - several makeup primers (do check however) are non-comedogenic meaning they won't cause any sort of irritation to your skin or clog up your pores.

4. Makeup lasts longer - the main reason most people even consider using primers is due to the amount of lasting power it ADDS on to your makeup. It decreases sweating through the pores which makes your makeup stay in place. Its almost like a shield for anything that may make your makeup wear off throughout the day.

5. Reduces redness - There are many primers available which almost act like pre-colour correctors which majorly helps reduce redness and uneven skin tone.

You might be thinking what does silicone have to do with makeup primers? Well, silicone is a skin tone miracle-worker. The silicone adds the extra layer to the average primers you get, which fills in your imperfections. If you're someone who uses liquid foundation, you may find that your fine lines, i.e. under your eyes, on your upper lip etc. tend to become more obvious. However, if you venture into the land of silicone primers then you will notice a HUGE difference. The lines will literally disappear and your makeup will feel and look flawless.

So, before I get way too into it (yeah, I probably already have, but hay - you learn something new everyday right?) onto the primers:

From left to right: Maybelline - Baby Skin instant pore eraser, L'oreal - Infallible mattifying base and The Body Shop - Insta Blur.

To begin with we have the Maybelline - Baby Skin instant pore eraser (as seen & swatched below). I picked this up nearly a year ago now and I feel like I am now ready to give you all my verdict on it. The primer is completely transparent & even though it looks quite thick in the swatch below, in actuality its quite thin and so easy to apply & spread - with both your hands and/or a brush. Due to the amount of silicone in this primer you will have absolutely no issues of applying it and it really does make your foundation glide on so easily, leaving you streak and patch free! My verdict - go get it! :)

Next, we have the L'oreal - Infallible Mattifying Base (as seen & swatched below). This was recently released and there has been a huge hype over it. Whilst browsing the aisles in Boots (as you do) I came across this which was on introductory offer and me, being the sucker I am bought into the marketing and I was so keen to try this. I am SO glad I picked this primer up because I have been using it every day since. This primer is also a clear gel with an amazing consistency. Its thinner than the Maybelline primer (above) and its super easy to apply. It dries really quickly and evenly and doesn't leave that sticky feeling that most people hate. For me it works as a great moisturiser and primer. I tend to have quite a oily t-zone and this primer works so well to control any oil. If you're also someone who suffers from oily skin from time to time I highly recommend you give this a try! :)

Last, but by no means least we have The Body Shop - Insta Blur (as seen & swatched below). This was my first ever silicone primer, and it was the primer which led me to love silicone based primers. Since using this primer I have never gone back to using any ordinary primers. I recently recommended this to a friend and since using it she has FALLEN IN LOVE WITH IT. She too could not believe the effect this primer has on lasting power and getting rid of creasing under the eyes. I too LOVE this product - its absolutely amazing. As you  can see from the swatch the consistency of this primer is rather "wrinkly" and solid but hay, who cares? When you apply it - its velvety soft, matte and has this powdery feeling. It doesn't leave any type of greasiness and holds my makeup in place for hours and hours. I have to say this is my FAVOURITE primer out of the three. I guess it depends on the consistency and finish you're after but I can assure you - whichever one you pick out of the three, you will not be let down! :)

That's all for today girls! :) What are your favourite primers, am I missing any?

Lots of love xxx
